almost nothing here is mine. the recordings, the histories, the lineups, the lyrics, they exist because other people spent years, sometimes whole lifetimes, cataloging and preserving them.
i just love putting it all in one place and seeing what falls out: a musician who shows up in four orchestras, a singer's whole career on one timeline, the exact year where a new pianist changes everything. none of it happens without the people below.
the who-played-where-when behind so many orchestras: the eras, the personnel, the section sizes, the little turning points where a pianist leaves and the whole sound shifts. a lot of the eras timelines and musician pages here lean on their research. i could read these breakdowns for hours.
the encyclopedia. biographies, discographies, histories, lyrics, all of it. it's the first place i check for almost anything, and half the names i can spell correctly are thanks to them. for several orchestras (de caro, fresedo, canaro, the típica brunswick and more) the era-by-era lineups here come straight from their biographies.
every tango here plays through youtube. that only works because people digitize crackly old shellac and 78s and put them up so the music doesn't quietly disappear. channels like Audite Tango and so many careful uploaders, thank you for keeping it alive and findable.
the djs, teachers, milongueros and obsessive collectors who argue about takes and dates and singers online. i learn something every time i go down one of these rabbit holes.
